If you haven’t heard of Twilight before, well let’s get real, with the fanatics and the massive peddling of merchandise, shameless promotion of the books and movies, it really isn’t possible. So you know what Twilight is, a story about a girl caught up in a love triangle between a vampire and a werewolf, a girl who is depicted with so few details that many girls can magically relate. Well now that we know what the main premise of the story is, let’s cut straight to the core.
Vampires, as defined in Merriam-Webster Dictionary “1: the reanimated body of a dead person believed to come from the grave at night and suck the blood of persons asleep”, well the idea of a love story between a living person and a dead person is just creepy to begin. Of course if we look at what the bible says about the vampire thirst for blood in KJV: Leviticus 7:26-27 we read “[26] Moreover ye shall eat no manner of blood, whether it be of fowl or of beast, in any of your dwellings. [27] Whatsoever soul it be that eateth any manner of blood, even that soul shall be cut off from his people.” Therefore we learn that our God has a zero tolerance for those who eat blood let alone human blood, which brings us hastily to the conclusion that vampires are then inherently evil.
If that are not enough we can then approach this from the angle of the fact a vampire is a dead person, by definition, then if we look again at the premise of the story, love-triangle, and then reference again to the Bible KJV: Leviticus 21:1 we read “[1] And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto the priests the sons of Aaron, and say unto them, There shall none be defiled for the dead among his people:”, we quickly learn that this love relationship between a girl and a vampire is condemned by God, therefore this side of the love triangle is evil.
Moving right along to the other side of the love triangle in Twilight, we find a werewolf, as defined in Merriam-Webster Dictionary “: a person transformed into a wolf or capable of assuming a wolf’s form”, so essentially a werewolf is a human that is also a beast. Once again looking to the Bible for guidance we can find some answers here as well on how God views this love relationship between a girl and a beast in KJV: Leviticus 18:23 we read “[23] Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion.”, clearly this is stated as wrong, and therefore evil behavior.
Now that we have evaluated that both parties the main character in the Twilight series is caught up in a love triangle with, and our guidance from God as directed in his Holy Bible, let’s evaluate the glue that binds the story together, lust. Well if we fall back to the very well known Ten Commandments that God gave to Moses in Mount Sinai in KJV: Exodus 20:17 we read “[17] Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.”, the main theme here is to not covet, and if we look at lust, it’s essentially a version of coveting that is limited toward the sexual rather than the broad, therefore this aspect of the story we can also conclude is evil.
To summarize the Twilight Saga is entirely based on the three key concepts listed above, vampires, werewolf’s, and lust. These three concepts are clearly condemned by God in his Holy Bible that he gives us as guidance to help us make correct choices for our lives, it is thus proper that as a Christian I conclude that the main concepts in Twilight are counter to what I believe are good works designed to better the world by lifting up or spreading good cheer, and see them for what they are, evil.
